Boolean search modifiers

A means of searching for data by employing algebraic notation “AND” “OR” “NOT”

are all used to make database searches easier.  

Examples: 

  • (African Americans) AND (Women) NOT (AFRAM)  

  • (Southern Appalachian Lesbian and Gay Alliance SALGA) or (Community Liaison Organization for Education and Reform CLOSER) NOT (Community Connections) NOT (Helms, Jesse) 

  • (Pearson) AND (Baseball) NOT (The Asheville Tourists) 

  • MS403* (everything in this specific box)

  • 187% (everything listed with dates between 1870-1879)
