CHAPTER FIVE: Sneak Peek

There was no clear beginning to this project. By August of 2019 I had a collection of video clips where I had recorded myself dancing, several books filled with thoughts and conversations between my mother, my grandmother and myself, and a handful of garments I would dress up in to simply do laundry, wash the dishes, etc. Through the process of collecting these pieces, I noticed myself tapping back into familial practices to take care of oneself. These acts were so deeply embedded into everyday life that I did not question it or even acknowledge it as a practice. All I knew is that the women in my family are experts in transforming a toxic thing into something nourishing. They taught me how to turn poison into a meal.

Now, we are in October of 2020 and I’m about to release a multidisciplinary project called How To Turn Poison Into a Meal. At this point, it is not not about the poison or the meal. It's about the person consuming those things and their own process of transmutation.
